Help Yourself
Three years since their breakthrough, Seattle folk collective Fleet Foxes are preparing to put out their long awaited follow up album, Helplessness Blues. Taking a slightly new direction, Blues is said to be "less poppy and more groove-based". Now, heading out on a U.S. and European tour, Fleet Foxes are bringing the sweet harmonies (and beards!) to D.A.R. Constitution Hall. Grab your tickets early for an eclectic night of ethereal jams. Three is a Metal Number
For all you economic types, now would be the time to invest in Aquanet, Bic, and various spandex companies. M3 Rock Festival is back for its third year of devilish debauchery. The festival packs blistering bands like Whitesnake and Tesla over two stages, a freak stage, tons of wild booths and attractions, and even a kickoff party the night before with Baltimore metal maniacs Kix. This May, cut the sleeves off of that black tee, break out the white high tops, and lose yourself in some manic metal at Merriweather. M3 Rock Festival

Ghostland Observatory
As if their pulsating electro-funk sound wasn't already rad enough, Austin-based duo Ghostland Observatory take things to the next level live. Complete with the band's fun and funky theatrics and enough lazers to contact aliens in outer space, their show at Rams Head Live this Saturday will teleport you to another dimension of dance. Trampled Under Hoof
Deerhoof's pioneering music, filled with complex melodies and instrumentation, has undoubtedly influenced many up-and-coming indie rock artists. Their latest album is Deerhoof vs. Evil, further showcasing their unwavering experimental character. Setting the tone early are supporting sets from Chain and The Gang (led by D.C.'s own Ian Svenonius) and dance eccentrics Ben Butler and Mousepad. Come hear some sweet dissonance at 9:30 Club this Monday. DEERHOOF

For all of these newfangled bands that label themselves "post-punk", most can't hold a candle anywhere near Gang of Four. One of the original post-punk bands to spring up in the late 1970s, Gang of Four set themselves apart from their peers with a dark attitude and aggressive, almost-funky sound. The band has periodically gotten back together over the past few years, and those who have seen them live know they're as explosive as ever. Do yourself a favor and join the gang next Wednesday.
