TrainM5

Engine Number Five

Responsible for some of the most recognizable modern rock songs of the last decade, Train won both Billboard Music and Grammy Awards this year for their song "Hey, Soul Sister". Banding together with Maroon 5, who are out supporting their third album, Hands All Over, this show will be a perfect melding of pop rock brilliance. Add in an opening set from beloved songwriter Gavin DeGraw, and this is one summer event you can't miss.

Masters of Mystique

Brendan Perry (the male-half of Dead Can Dance) and Robin Guthrie (co-founder of Cocteau Twins) will join together at Sixth & I Historic Synagogue this Saturday to start their co-headlining tour.  The night promises multimedia treats (Perry's set includes his unique film scores and animations), ethereal sounds, and enough moody atmospherics to put a spell on any fan of experimental music.

BlastAlexander

Family Affair

After success with Ima Robot and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, vocalist and songwriter Alex Ebert released his first solo effort this year. Simply titled Alexander, the album was completely written, performed, and recorded by Ebert. Only playing a handful of dates, Alexander and Fam (his supporting band) are playing at Sixth & I Historic Synagogue next week. Don't miss this special opportunity to hear a unique voice in today's indie rock scene.

BlastFriendlyFires

Buzzworthy

Whereas many dance-punk bands seem to favor grittier bass and drums, Friendly Fires rely on a super clean and punchy electronic sound.  Complete with fuzzed-out synths and layered new wave vocals, the band has put a refreshing (and loud!) spin on the genre.  If you live in D.C., you might want to secure loose items in your home tomorrow night.  9:30 Club will be the epicenter as Friendly Fires get the whole town vibrating.

JustinTrawickGroup

Jacks of All Trades

By consistently playing shows year round, Virginia's own Justin Trawick has perfected his ability to shine as both a solo performer and band frontman. His blend of acoustic-based folk with a bit of hip-hop and roots rock thrown in continues to wow fans all over. Together with lowercaseletters and RPM (two D.C. area bands that also understand the art of genre blending), The Justin Trawick Group will make 9:30 Club the place to be this Saturday.
