Here to Deliver On the heels of their special club tour (which included a stellar show at 9:30 Club this past June), Death Cab For Cutie return to larger stages for their full summer tour. Supporting their newest album, Codes and Keys, they're arriving at Merriweather Post Pavilion this Sunday. Together with an opening set from Scottish rockers Frightened Rabbit, this show is just the thing to satisfy your indie rock craving.

Masterful Prog Pavilion Prog-jazz pioneers Return to Forever (featuring keyboardist Chick Corea, bassist Stanley Clarke, drummer Lenny White, violinist Jean-Luc Ponty, and guitarist Frank Gambale) return (see what we did there???) to Merriweather Post Pavilion this Tuesday. If that over-the-top instrumental insanity isn't enough, Zappa Plays Zappa will open the show. Helmed by son Dweezil Zappa, the band will serve you one heaping helping of father Frank's wild and wacky hits. If you consider yourself even a slight fan of true musicianship, it wouldn't be criminal to miss this show, but it wouldn't be very smart!

Two of a Kind
With a fanbase including artists ranging from Taylor Swift to Steven Tyler, folk duo The Civil Wars have become the band to know this year. D.C. audiences got a taste of their sound when they played a support set for Adele at 9:30 Club in May. Now, The Civil Wars are making a stop at Lincoln Theater this October to showcase songs filled with breathtaking arrangements and haunting melodies. Sweet SimplicitySince the beginning of his career, folk singer/songwriter Alexi Murdoch has turned down numerous record deals, opting instead to release all of his music independently. Already one of the most-licensed new artists today (with songs appearing in the likes of Gone Baby Gone, The Vampire Diaries, and Away We Go), Murdoch just put out his second album, Towards The Sun. Don't wait to grab tickets for a night of soft brilliance when Alexi Murdoch arrives at Sixth & I Historic Synagogue this fall. ALEXI MURDOCH@ Sixth & I Historic Synagogue • Washington, D.C. The Many Different Shades of Metal
Though Queensryche and Volbeat are different stylistically, they're both categorized under the gloomy umbrella of metal. Celebrating their 30th Anniversary, Queensryche will dive deep into their eclectic catalog, performing songs from all of their albums, including some rare b-sides. Volbeat are charging forward with their rockabilly-fueled hard rock, gaining new followers with each stop on their North American tour. With their respective 9:30 Club shows happening on back-to-back nights, there are multiple opportunities for you to get truly heavy. That's not all. Bring your Queensryche or Volbeat ticket stub to The Summer Slaughter Tour at 9:30 Club on August 15, and you'll get two tickets for the price of one*. Make sure your wrist is in shape, cause you'll be throwing up the horns quite a bit in the coming weeks. 30th Anniversary TourQUEENSRYCHE
